My Address to the VC Board of Supervisors & The Shofar

Wednesday, 24 September, 2008 - 1:26 am

I had the great honor to address the VCBOS and to commemorate the Yartzheit of those that perished on September 11th.  The 23rd of Elul on the Jewish calendar, marks seven years to the day of that tragic time in our history.

To see a video of my remarks, click here.   After the video comes on, you'll have the option to "Jump To" Rabbi Chaim Bryski, Moment of Affirmation.

For your enjoyment, here is a video of the remarks I gave back in March, 2007.  For a good laugh watch the last minute.

I was so moved by your blowing the Shofar. I think it was a great idea. I never knew the symbolism of "no words"; the only symbolism I knew was that the Shofar sounds like weeping, which should bring us to regret our failings of the past year and resolve to do better this year. The "no words" symbolism is beautiful and meaningful especially when tied in with 911 as you did it. And the speaker right after you who read Psalm 109 -- touche!

Thank you for your kind words...There are many other lessons that we can learn from the Shofar.
The main thing to remember is that the sounds of the Shofar should inspire us and bring actual change for the better into our daily lives...There is a great parable on that theme regarding the famous Fire Debacle of Chelm...But that is for another post.
